Oaxaca being a central point of Mexico’s cultural agenda and with the most important artists such as Tamayo, Toledo, Hernandez and Morales among many others part of the Oaxaca community, it was a must to have an important Cultural Center that will gather the work of all these Mexican artists.

The central idea for this project was to design a museum that could be built with the hands of the local artists as a metaphor, this is why we chose brick as the main material for this proposal, a museum that will generate employment for local people: all the materials will be brought directly from Oaxaca and the handwork will be by the people of Oaxaca.

To have a space that gathers the culture of the 16 originary towns of Oaxaca and the pre-Hispanic culture of the area along with the new architectural and urbanistic tendencies, Fernando Romero has designed this proposal based on one of the most inspirational aspects of Oaxaca’s colonial architecture: the arch.
